Brendan Rodgers urges Celtic to get 'greedy' for primary mission as players told substance must trump style

Brendan Rodgers says there's even more thrills to come from Celtic’s spellbinding wing pair Hyunjun Yang and Luis Palma.

The South Korean and the Honduran tore Aberdeen to ribbons as they maintained their fast progression under the boss. Palma set Yang up for the opening goal against the Reds and that set the tone as the duo ripped through the dazed Dons.

Rodgers was thrilled at the output of the duo and praised the way they have quickly adjusted to life in the Scottish Premiership and also to his demands. Yang’s goal was his first for the champions since signing from Gangwon and it’s now five for Palma since his switch from Aris. With Oh Hyeon-gyu also netting twice as a sub, Rodgers admits he’s excited at the progress of youth as he singled out the wide boys for the way they have taken on information and rapidly adopted it and variety into their respective games.

He said: “There is still such a long way to come. You look at the improvements to the two wingers. Sometimes you come into a club, especially as a winger and you try to showboat.

“Look at Yang when he first came in, bless him. He either beat his man or gave it away. That’s not football. You have to beat your man, of course. But when you can’t, you have to serve the ball, get your positioning right, so you can see his development.

“His goal was a classic example of that. A winger getting to the second post and closing the game and getting his goal. He also had a great move where he came inside and made the pass to Matt O’Riley for our second goal.

“You’ve got to create goals and score goals. That’s your job as a winger here, It’s not about looking a good player, you’ve got to BE a good player.
