Brendan Rodgers warned Celtic reputation 'on the line' but 3 good omens WILL change everything

Celtic are within touching distance of being far better in the Champions League, but Brendan Rodgers reputation is on the line until he finds a Euro fix.

The Hoops were dumped out of Europe's elite competition after a capitulation against Lazio with no chance of progression on the continent after a drab campaign. It earned Rodgers the unwanted tag of being the manager with the worst results after taking charge of at least 20 games in the Champions League. He has won just once at the top table of European football with Celtic during his first spell against Anderlecht, losing 17 group stage games.

But it ain't all bad reckons pundit Michael Stewart who believes only marginal differences stand between Rodgers and making his side a force in Europe. Stats like that do put his reputation on the line believes the former midfielder, but if the Scottish Premiership champions were to add real quality in the transfer market they could qualify next season.

He told BBC Sportsound: "Celtic need to spend it better, more wisely. When you look at the number of players they have, its too many. Brendan Rodgers has spoken about this, they need less but more quality. And it's not about spending more money per se, it might well be. But with Rodgers at the helm, statistically it's the worst Champions League manager over the last period of time? I don't think he is. But the statistics would say the results haven't been great.

"I'm very interested to see what happens at Celtic over the next 18 months, because I don't see what has happened this season as being palatable for somebody like Rodgers. He wants and needs better. That's where his reputation is on the line, they need more quality.
