Brendan Rodgers resets Celtic transfer expectations as he admits a £15m marquee signing WON'T be 'reality'

Boss Brendan Rodgers has played down speculation over a marquee signing of £15million to £20m arriving at Celtic this summer.

Odin Thiago Holm, Marco Tilio, Maik Nawrocki, Yang Hyun-jun and Kwon Hyeok-kyu are all in the door so far as the Irishman freshens up the Parkhead squad during his second spell at the club, but following the departure of star man Jota to Saudi Arabia man fans had expected a big name arrival to join the Scottish Premiership champions this summer. The likes of Fabian Rieder and Dominik Livakovic have been floated online with the Champions League group stage campaign just around the corner.

However, the Irishman has told Sky Sports News that the guarantee of playing alongside Europe's elite clubs has not changed Celtic's transfer model as he ruled out a signing going into double digits of millions. He said: "That's a huge difference when you don't have eight games to qualify. Listen, we want to improve the squad. I think everyone looks and thinks that we might be bringing in a £15million or £20million player.

"Now the reality is, that won't be the case. It's not what the club is based on. But that doesn't mean that there's not talented players out there that we want. So there's still quite a way to go in the window, so we'll look to improve the squad again and continue with that.

"We've done a lot of early business which has been great, that allows the players to come in and settle, and of course, we want to do some more. But I'm quite calm on that and the players that we have are working very well and we'll look to bring in some more to help them."
