Erling Haaland gesture gives Man City fans lasting memory as pre-season tour ends

If the entire point of pre-season is to get players used to their new surroundings, then the torrential rain in Seoul was the perfect preparation for another year in Manchester.

It looked like Man City's final pre-season fixture wouldn't go ahead when the heavens opened ahead of kick-off at the World Cup stadium, but soon the granite grey sky was replaced by sky blue swarms of supporters instead.

The downpour was so unexpected that few people had brought an umbrella, never mind anything remotely waterproof. My own outfit selection of shorts and a white t-shirt was quickly regretted as I arrived sodden at the press entrance, looking like I'd just swam there from Japan instead.

Everything seemed to have been turned up a notch for the final days of the tour in South Korea. The level of support was turned up a notch, and the weather was more extreme. It didn't quite transpire into a spectacle on the pitch, with a drab game watched by another sellout crowd.

City's concerns will be eased by the fact that the goals all came after they had made wholesale changes by that stage, though Kevin de Bruyne wasn't one of them.

The Belgian didn't play a single second of football during the three tour matches, yet he was the most popular player during them. Images of him being displayed on the stadium screen were cheered louder than any of the goals scored.
