Brendan Rodgers reacts to what Celtic Double would mean to him and the fans

Brendan Rodgers believes leading Celtic to a league and cup double will be a worthy reward for the various obstacles his team had to overcome earlier on in the season.

After wrapping up the Premiership title with a game to spare, the Hoops have the chance to round off the campaign with another piece of silverware when they face arch rivals Rangers in the final of the Scottish Cup on Saturday. The latest derby clash comes just weeks after Rodgers' men had all but sealed the championship with a 2-1 win against Rangers at Celtic Park.

At the turn of the year, a strong run of form under new boss Philippe Clement had seen Rangers overturn an eight point deficit to get back into title contention, with a string of poor displays and a crippling injury bill putting Celtic's defence of the Premiership crown in doubt. But Rodgers has been delighted with the way his team have recovered to put together a rich vein of form in the last two months and heaped praise on his players for coming out of that challenging period.

Speaking to the media ahead of the final, he said: "We come into the game in an ideal condition as we have been on fire in the last few months and have been playing really well. There were lots of challenges for us at the beginning of the season when we played every three or four days with really important players missing.

"But over the course of the season as the pressure moments have built up, the players have been absolutely superb in how they have dealt with that. We arrive having won the league in a really good way and are in good condition for the game."
