Brendan Rodgers makes witty green card oneliner as Celtic boss says 'we don't need a blue card up here'

Brendan Rodgers responded to talk over blue cards being introduced to football with a witty green card remark.

The Celtic boss delivered his reaction to the story of sin-bins being trialled. It would involve players spending 10 minutes in the technical area after being shown the new card by a referee. It is not yet clear when the trial will start and which competitions it will involve but Rodgers is NOT a fan and has called on the rule-makers not to complicate things further.

As part of his response, he also joked about working in Scotland and if a blue card was on the way, a green one better follow. He explained: "As soon as I seen it I thought 'I work in Scotland, they better have a green card as well as a blue card or we might be in trouble'. Just don't complicate it. Make a decision whether it is red, yellow or no card. We don't need a blue card up here that's for sure." Asked if we didn't need anything else to argue about, he laughed and responded: "No, no."

Celtic are in Scottish Cup action this weekend as they take on St Mirren with a place in the quarter-finals up for grabs for the winner.

Alistair Johnston was stretchered off in the midweek win over Hibs and will miss the clash in Paisley as the Hoops await results on his scan. Greg Taylor is also close but a late call will be made on him with the positive news being if he misses the clash with the Buddies he WILL return in time for the following outing. Cameron Carter-Vickers is also back out on the grass but like his two team-mates he won't be involved at the weekend.
