Aiden McGeady insists Celtic punters faction have it in for Brendan Rodgers as Ange 'hangover' plays its part

Aiden McGeady says Celtic have been impacted by a post-Ange Postecoglou 'hangover' in the early days of new management - and some punters couldn't wait for the first stumble.

The former winger has been watching on as Brendan Rodgers era 2.0 gets underway at Parkhead, and a 1-0 win over Rangers has lifted lingering worries over how it may pan out. A 1-0 defeat to Kilmarnock in the Viaplay Cup and 0-0 Premiership draw at home to struggling St Johnstone preceded the gusty Ibrox win and having left Glasgow under a cloud for Leicester in 2019.

The current Ayr United player and technical manager says some were just waiting to pounce on Rodgers making early slips. He believes that it's a train of thought some were keen to jump on. McGeady told Open Goal: "It's been a bit of a difficult start, hasn't it? Difficult start for the manager.

"I think you've got the hangover effect of a lot of fans from last season used to a different way of playing and then you have a lot of fans who were just waiting for that Kilmarnock defeat or a bad result to jump on the bandwagon of disliking him for leaving the first time. But look, the Rangers game last week, Celtic were by far the better team."
