Brendan Rodgers highlights defensive change in Leicester City that has clean sheets flowing

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has said that defending from the front is the reason that clean sheets are now starting to flow for his side.

City kept their third clean sheet in a row on Thursday night as they came out as 2-0 winners over French side Rennes in the Europa Conference League.

Marc Albrighton’s thunderous finish gave City the lead going into half time, with Kelechi Iheanacho doubling the side’s lead in added time.

It means that City take the two goal advantage to next week’s second leg in France.

The shutout follows clean sheets in the Premier League against Burnley and Leeds United, and comes during a season where questions have been asked about City’s defending.

Rodgers has outlined the difference between now and earlier in the season.

“It's work rate, it's all about the collective, at the top end of the pitch we weren't pressing the game,” he said in his post-match press conference.

“We're getting inside to win tackles and press the game and that has helped us.

“When the ball gets into the box the back four and defenders are defending well.”

The opening goal gave City a foothold in the game, with Rodgers admitting that his team started slowly before gaining control.

“I thought they made a better start but once we got the first goal, an incredible goal, we were in control,” he added.

“(It was)A really enjoyable game, you can see Rennes are a very good side.”
