Jamie Vardy injury latest with Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers hopeful
Leicester City hope to have Jamie Vardy in training before the end of the international break as the club’s talisman striker overcomes a knee injury.
Nearly as soon as City welcomed back their number nine from a two-month lay-off following a hamstring issue earlier this month, he picked up a knock to his knee in the win over Leeds. It means Vardy has played just two of the club’s last 15 matches.
But as City gear up for a busy month in April, starting with a trip to Manchester United, they are hopeful of having Vardy involved sooner rather than later.
While it was overshadowed by the news that Wilfred Ndidi may be out for the season, manager Brendan Rodgers did provide an update on Vardy after Sunday’s 2-1 win over Brentford.
He said: “The likes of Jamie, it’s a week to a couple of weeks, so that’s looking much healthier for us,” backing up what he said two days prior, which was: “Hopefully Jamie should be back training with us within the next week or so, which is great news, and he might be not be too far away after the international break.”
Marc Albrighton is the other player who is close to returning. The winger picked up a groin injury fewer than 10 minutes into the 2-1 loss at Rennes last week.
“Marc hopefully should be back just after the international break if he’s not back by then,” Rodgers said after the win over Brentford.
That would leave City with just three injured players, all with knee injuries and all expected to be out until close to the end of the season: Ndidi, Danny Ward, and Ryan Bertrand.
