BREAKING: Woman arrested on suspicion of assault after 'critically ill' baby girl rushed to hospital from nursery

A woman has been arrested after a seven-month-old baby girl was rushed from nursery to hospital in a critical condition. A major investigation has now been launched by police after the incident, which saw a woman arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault and child cruelty on September 21.

The woman, aged in her 30s, has since been released on bail with strict conditions after being questioned by police. Greater Manchester Police have launched a joint investigation with Oldham Council and Ofsted over the incident at Kids Around The Clock nursery in Chadderton, Oldham.

Police were called to the scene by paramedics with the North West Ambulance Service shortly before 4pm on September 21, to reports a seven-month-old girl was critically ill and being rushed to hospital. She remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The child’s parents are being kept updated and are being supported by the investigation team currently, police said. Extensive enquiries continue to be conducted to establish the circumstances of how the child’s condition deteriorated.

Ofsted has confirmed they have suspended the nursery in Main Road as agencies conduct their enquiries. A notice has been pictured on the door to the nursery which outlines the suspension is to allow 'time to investigate our belief that a child may be exposed to a risk of harm' and for 'any necessary steps to be taken to eliminate or reduce the risk of harm'.
