BREAKING: Woman, 28, arrested on suspicion of murder after man, 37, found dead

A murder investigation was launched by detectives today - Saturday - after a 37-year-old man was found dead.

Greater Manchester Police said a woman, 28, was arrested on suspicion of his murder at the scene and remained in police custody for questioning on Saturday night. It's been described as 'an isolated incident with no risk to the wider public'.

Emergency services were called to Eleanor Street in Wigan at around 12.30pm today. It's understood members of the public tried to save the man's life by carrying out CPR before police and paramedics arrived.

In a statement, the force said: "A 28 year old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 37 year old man was found deceased in Wigan.

"Officers were called to an address on Eleanor Street in Wigan at around 12.30pm today (Saturday 2 December 2023). On arrival they discovered a man who had sadly passed away at the scene.

"GMP launched a murder investigation and a scene has been put in place at the address whilst officers carry out enquiries." The man hasn't been named.

Det Chief Insp Mark Davis, of GMP's Major Incident Team, said: "This investigation is in it's very early stages and we are still piecing together the circumstances surrounding this man's death.

"I would like to thank the brave members of the public who were alerted to the incident and carried out CPR prior to the arrival of emergency services.
