'Much-loved' missing grandad found dead

A 'much-loved' missing grandad who went missing last week has sadly been found dead, his family have confirmed.

Gary Alder, 70, was last seen on Tuesday (December 5). He was reportedly spotted at Swinton Precinct at 11am that day before being seen near Aldi, in Eccles, at around 1pm. Details of his death have not been released by Greater Manchester Police or his family, but his passing has been confirmed this evening (Monday December 11).

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News on Saturday (December 9), son, Ryan Donlon said the family were becoming 'increasingly worried' about the Swinton dad-of-five.

"He just keeps himself to himself really," Ryan said. "He's really quiet, he works, he looks after my sister. He gets stuff every day for her.

"He's self-employed and he just lives by his own means. He's been really struggling because he's not had much work, his mate gets him out to here and there to try and help him out. I spoke to his workmate and he said they've got quite a big job on, but he hadn't come, and it's not like him - the fact that he's not gone whatsoever."

Posting on Facebook today, Ryan wrote: "Just to let everyone know my Dad's body has unfortunately been found. Thanks for all the help and messages.

"Sorry I haven’t replied to everyone if you could please respect our privacy at this time would be much appreciated."
