Police hunt man who 'picked up and carried' girl, 14, in attempted abduction

A man who 'picked up and carried' a teenage girl he approached and spoke to in what police are treating as an attempted abduction is being hunted. A major police investigation is now underway after the worrying incident in Burnage, south Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police said thankfully, the 14-year-old girl managed to escape after the man involved took a call on his mobile phone. She was unhurt and raised the alarm.

Police said the man approached her as she walked along Errwood Road in Burnage, near Cringle Park, at around 5.20pm on Friday, December 1. Details have only just been released by GMP.

After a short conversation the man - who was wearing a a black puffer jacket and is believed to be aged around 20 - is said to have picked the girl up and carried her to a bench near the park, where he 'attempted to keep her in place'.

In a statement issued on Saturday night, GMP said: "Officers in Burnage are appealing for witnesses following reports of an attempted abduction on Friday.

"At approximately 5.20pm, it is reported that a 14-year-old female was approached by a man whilst walking along Errwood Road in Burnage.

"After a short conversation the man picked the girl up and carried her to a bench in the Cringle Park area and attempted to keep her in place. The man took a phone call and whilst he was distracted, the female managed to escape. Thankfully no injuries have been reported.
