BREAKING: Trains CANCELLED after landslip blocks railway lines - latest updates

Trains on a busy Greater Manchester route are being cancelled or diverted following a landslip. Engineers are in Darwen, east Lancashire, this morning (January 27) to respond to the incident.

Services heading between Blackburn and Manchester Victoria are affected. Trains running between Blackburn and Bolton are being cancelled, while other services are being diverted to Todmorden.

A National Rail spokesperson said: "A landslip near Darwen means all lines are blocked. Trains between Bolton and Blackburn will be cancelled.

"Disruption is expected until 10:00. Network Rail engineers are on site and assessing the situation Manchester Victoria to Blackburn services are unable to go via Darwen, in both directions. These services will divert via Todmorden where possible."

A Network Rail Lancashire spokesperson added: "We are sorry that services between Blackburn and Manchester Victoria may be delayed or cancelled while engineers investigate excess water and soil blocking the tracks because of a landslip at Darwen."

National Rail says rail replacement buses are being used between Bolton and Blackburn.

A post on X says:

"To help you to complete your journey, road transport has been provided between Bolton and Blackburn, in both directions calling at all stations.

"These will be operated by S-Line. Journey times will be extended by 40 minutes whilst travelling by road transport."

Passengers are facing disruption on trains between east Lancashire and Manchester this morning following a landslip.

Engineers are on the scene in Darwen, where a landslip has blocked the lines.

Trains are being cancelled between Blackburn and Bolton as a result of the incident.
