BREAKING: Road taped off after 'unexplained death' following vehicle fire in Altrincham - live updates

A road has been taped off by police in Altrincham amid an ongoing incident with paramedics also at the scene this evening.

Emergency services are currently responding to the incident on Atlantic Street, in Broadheath, close to the Trans Pennine Trail car park.

One witness reported seeing seven police cars and two ambulances at the scene earlier this afternoon, with nearby roads Seamon's Road also blocked off.

Greater Manchester Police, the North West Ambulance Service and the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for more details.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Shortly before 3.30pm today (Thursday 12 October), police were called to Atlantic Street in Altrincham by GMFRS to reports of an unexplained death.

"Emergency services attended and a person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"The investigation is in its early stages and officers are keeping an open mind about the circumstances whilst enquiries continue."

The fire service had been called out to reports of a vehicle fire shortly before police and paramedics attended.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just after 3pm this afternoon (Thursday 12th October), one fire engine from Altrincham fire station was called to reports of a vehicle fire on Atlantic Street, Altrincham.

“The crew arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to extinguish the fire.

“Firefighters have been in attendance for around two hours and are still at the scene.”

The fire service, as well as police and paramedics were all called to the scene earlier today.
