Erik ten Hag told why Mason Mount might be ‘questioning’ Manchester United transfer

A former England defender believes Mason Mount will be already regretting his decision to move to Manchester United given their start to the season.

The Reds have won just four of their eight Premier League matches so far and sit 10th in the table, a point ahead of Chelsea. Mauricio Pochettino has managed just three wins in his first eight league matches although two of them have come in their last two outings.

United - who have also lost both Champions League games so far - survived another embarrassing defeat to Brentford on Saturday thanks to two late goals from Scott McTominay, having been beaten by Galatasaray and Crystal Palace in the week beforehand.

Mount started the visit of Brentford before being taken off after 63 minutes. That was his sixth appearance and start for his new club having missed five others due to injury following his £55m switch from Chelsea.

Ex-Chelsea right-back Glen Johnson believes Mount may be regretting his decision to move to United given the presumption that the club would have been in a better position to lift major honours after February’s League Cup success.

Asked by BetFred whether Mount would be having second thoughts about his transfer, Johnson said: "At the moment he will be.

"Manchester United are a very big football club, but you don't join them in the expectation that you're going to be part of a team that's 10th in the Premier League. You only want to go there to challenge for major honours.
