BREAKING: Major emergency response near river for second day as white tent pictured - latest updates

There is a major emergency response near to the River Roch in Bury for the second day. Police and fire crews have taped off an area of woodland near to the water this morning (November 19).

It comes after responders and rescue teams were deployed to the area on Saturday night (November 18), to reports of a concern for the welfare of a woman.

Crews from Greater Manchester Police, North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) were called to Newby Close in Bury at around 5.15pm. The stretch of water includes River Roch, near to Bury Cemetery.

It's understood search and rescue teams left the scene at around 8pm last night. No further details about the outcome of the search were provided by GMP or GMFRS.

This morning, emergency teams have been pictured at Goshen playing fields, near to the River Roch. An area near to the woodland has been taped off and a white tent can be seen in the distance.

It is not yet clear if today's scene is linked to the search last night. GMP and GMFRS have been approached for more information.
