BREAKING: 'Police incident' at packed Manchester Airport station - latest updates

A 'police incident' near Manchester Airport's bus station is ongoing this evening. Services are terminating at Portway until further notice, Stagecoach said.

Photos show huge crowds building at the airport. The nature of the incident is currently unclear.

The bus operator Stagecoach has posted on X, formerly Twitter,: "43/103 Srv Due to an ongoing police Incident by the Airport bus station services are terminating on Portway until further notice."

Greater Manchester Police and Manchester Airport have been contacted for comment.

A passenger caught up in the Manchester Airport train station disruption has described what he witnessed.

Kevin Bumby told the M.E.N. that he arrived at the airport train station at about 2.30pm to find ‘absolute bedlam’.

He claims people were ‘herded’ as far back as the entrance to the airport and told to ‘get back’ by staff who closed the doors to the platforms.

Kevin has claimed passengers fearing they would miss their trains were not given any information or an explanation from staff and that it was the ‘worst kind of customer service’ he has ever seen.

He posted on X, formerly Twitter,: “Absolute chaos at Manchester airport train station. where staff have blocked the doors to the platforms. With absolutely zero explanation as to what is going on.”

In response a member of TransPennine Express Customer Assist replied with an apology and added: “I have spoken to control and due to Industrial action causing a large reduction in services and those services being full and standing, staff are concerned about safety on the
