BREAKING: Lanes closed on M60 with queueing traffic after 'four-vehicle crash' - latest updates

Two lanes are closed after a crash said to have involved four vehicles on the M60. It has happened on the clockwise stretch of the motorway near junction 17 for Prestwich and Whitefield.

Emergency services are currently at the scene. National Highways said lanes one to three are currently closed whilst they deal with the aftermath.

The incident is seeing long queues form on the notoriously busy stretch as rush hour begins with delays of at least 45 minutes.

In a tweet, National Highways said: "Lane 3 has now re-opened on the #M60 clockwise within J17 (#Whitefield) due to a multi-vehicle collision.

"Lane 1 and 2 remain on scene while emergency services continue to work at scene. There are delays of at least 45 minutes from J9."
