Boxer David Jamieson targets East Kilbride homecoming title fight

Boxer David Jamieson hopes a convincing win over England’s Perry Howe will lead to a title fight in his home town of East Kilbride.

Jamieson, 32, made short work of 34-year-old Howe, with a third-round technical knock-out at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow on June 22.

Experienced fighter Jamieson hopes to have something special lined up for PlaySport in East Kilbride in September.

“What we’re talking about is a big show at PlaySport in September, maybe for a title,” he said.

“There will be five fights on the bill, I’ll be top of it, and it will be a sort of homecoming for me up there.

“It’s a great arena, the boy who owns it up there is a massive professional boxing fan, so he’s been pressing for a long time to get a pro show up there.

“It would be nice to be boxing in your home town at Playsport after all these years.

“They’re hoping to get it on for a title fight, maybe a Commonwealth or European silver, or something like that.

“That would be massive, and a serious step in the right direction. I want to get back to where I was, and that’s exactly where we’re looking to get – back into that top 10, and chasing a British title or something like that.”

Jamieson was pleased with the win over Howe, and said his opponent was hugely respectful.

Sustained pressure in the second round forced Howe to take a knee, and he bowed out of the fight, admitting later on social media it was for self-preservation reasons.

Jamieson said: “It was a technical knock-out, I don’t know if Perry retired with a rib injury or something, but it was good to get back, get moving, and get another win on the record.

“He couldn’t have been a nicer lad and you find that in this game. It’s all just business, but you tend to find in boys at this level that
