Chatham Town manager Kevin Hake calls for side to maintain performance levels from 4-0 Isthmian Premier victory over Wingate & Finchley as play-off race hots up
Boss Kevin Hake is calling on Chatham to maintain the performance levels they showed last weekend throughout the rest of their run-in.
Chats secured a 4-0 victory over Wingate & Finchley in front of another big crowd at the Bauvill Stadium to stay in the Isthmian Premier’s top five and in the mix for promotion to National League South through the play-offs.
It was a landmark clean sheet for Chatham, who bounced back from Easter Monday’s 3-2 loss at Dartford, against Wingate & Finchley.
Hake said: “To score four goals and keep a clean sheet is always pleasing.
“That’s now 20 clean sheets for the season, which says a lot about the standards and consistency of the group.
“The clean sheet gives you a strong platform and, when you add quality in the final third, you give yourself a real chance of winning games.
“The message now is simple: That’s the level.
“We expect that consistently and it’s about carrying it into the next game.”
Having returned from loan stints at Isthmian South East sides AFC Croydon Athletic and Sheppey United, Stanley Oldfield put Chats into a 16th-minute lead.
On-loan Charlton defender Oliver Hobden added to their tally with his second goal of the season before half-time, with midfielder Kian Moynes adding a third.
Young striker Oldfield then got his second and their fourth just after the hour when he converted a penalty.
“It was a professional performance and a result the players fully deserved,” said Hake, who is also the chairman.
“From the first whistle, we looked focused, disciplined and in control, and that set the tone.
"We did the basics properly, stayed organised and were clinical in the key moments.”
Chatham - still only two points ahead of sixth-placed Dartford and with a better goal
