Bohemians and manager Declan Devine part ways as Pat Fenlon takes interim charge

Bohemians have parted ways with manager Declan Devine after a difficult start to the new SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division season with director of football Pat Fenlon taking interim charge of the first-team.

The decision to seek a new manager follows in the wake of a 2-0 defeat to current top flight leaders and north Dublin derby rivals Shelbourne at Dalymount Park on Friday, a result that leaves Bohs seventh in the table after one win and a draw from their opening four matches.

Devine was appointed manager in October 2022 and despite a strong start to last season, Bohs finished sixth, although they reached the FAI Cup final which was lost to St Patrick's Athletic at the Aviva Stadium in November.

Fenlon, who also played for Bohs in the early 90s, previously managed the club between 2008 and 2011, leading them to two league titles, an FAI Cup, Setanta Sports Cup and League of Ireland Cup.

The 54-year-old's first match in interim charge will come this Friday at home to Derry City and he will be assisted by Derek Pender.

In a statement confirming Devine's exit, Bohemians said: "Bohemian FC has today parted company with men's first team manager Declan Devine.

"The Board of Bohemian FC wish to put on record our thanks to Declan for the commitment, determination and enthusiasm he brought to the club since being appointed to the role in October 2022.

"He oversaw the club’s transition back to full-time football and his efforts saw Bohs reach the FAI Cup final and narrowly miss out on qualification for Europe through the league last season.

"The club has also parted ways with assistant manager Gary Cronin, and the board also wish to thank him for his efforts since his appointment in November 2022.

"Director of Football Pat Fenlon
