'Be very surprised' - Journalist now addresses big Tottenham rumour

Sami Mokbel, of the Daily Mail, has slammed the idea of Tottenham Hotspur making a move for Leicester City star man James Maddison this summer for two key reasons. 

The North London outfit has already improved their midfield this summer with the acquisition of Yves Bissouma from Brighton and Hove Albion and has been linked with a  move for Roma star man Nicolo Zaniolo.

However, while they are trying to improve their quality in the midfield, one player they should not be looking at is England international Maddison, who has shone during his time at Leicester City.

Mokbel believes he does not fit the Spurs squad for a key reason, stating on the Last Word on Spurs podcast, “No, I haven’t heard that, and I would be very surprised, [James] Maddison is a good player for sure, but I don’t see him as a Conte-type player, certainly not a Conte-type character.”

While Maddison is obviously a great player, with 45 goals and 32 assists in his 169 games for the Foxes, Mokbel is correct in that he doesn’t quite fit the Conte system at Spurs as he is an attacking midfielder and Conte doesn’t usually use a player in this position.

The Italian manager often opts for two central midfielders with wing-backs bombing past them. Maddison could fit as one of the wingers, often occupied by Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski, but it would be difficult to replace either one of them as they were very important to Spurs’ great finish last season.
