"They like him" - Journalist drops big Tottenham transfer claim on £110k-p/w "amazing player"

Tottenham Hotspur have ‘liked’ Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison for ‘a long time’, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Antonio Conte’s charges have been one of the most active sides in the opening weeks of the transfer window and could be set to make further additions to their first-team squad.

Despite their being almost two months of the summer window remaining, Spurs have already brought in five new signings.

Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Fraser Forster, Clement Lenglet and Ivan Perisic have all arrived at Hotspur Way, and Conte has reportedly now turned his attention to signing a playmaker.

That’s according to the Evening Standard, and it seems as though Maddison is at the top of Conte’s wish list.

Paul O’Keefe, who is a FA Registered Intermediary, has claimed that Tottenham are ‘very seriously considering’ making a move for the England international ahead of next season.

The 25-year-old still has two years remaining on his current £110,000-per-week contract, though, and a £50 million price tag has previously been mooted, meaning he won’t come cheap.

Jones believes that Maddison would be ‘an amazing player’ for Tottenham to sign with the new Premier League campaign appearing on the horizon, although reckons Leicester will be determined to retain their star performer.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “It would be an amazing player for them to land just as the seasons getting underway.

“There’s no doubt they like him, they’ve liked him for a long time. I think the problem they’ve got is that James Maddison is Leicester’s best player.”

Maddison has gone from strength to strength since signing for Leicester from Norwich City back in 2018, helping his side claim the FA Cup and the Community Shield
