BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty apologises as Charlie Stayt forced to take over interview

During Friday's episode of BBC Breakfast, presenter Naga Munchetty had to apologise for repeatedly interrupting an interview.

Naga and her co-host Charlie Stayt were in conversation with Dr Tamzin Furtado, an animal welfare researcher from Liverpool University, discussing the impact of fireworks on animals.

Dr Furtado explained: "With fireworks, there's a lot more stimuli going on and animals are much more sensitive to that. Not just the sound, the vibrations and the lights. They would affect animals in ways we wouldn't know. Dogs or cats or horses might experience them much more strongly than us."

She also shared her personal experience of losing a horse due to a firework-related injury and discussed how others have seen their pets struggle with the effects of fireworks.

Throughout the interview, Naga was troubled by a cough and apologised multiple times as Charlie took over the questioning. "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry," she said amidst her coughing fits, reports the Express.

As the segment concluded, Charlie thanked Dr Furtado for her insights, saying: "Dr Tamzin Furtado, thank you so much for talking to us. Naga is going to get some water and we're going to go to the sport now."

Naga used this opportunity to apologise once again, expressing her regret to both the viewers and Dr Furtado.

Naga frequently presents the BBC show with Charlie, and Jon Kay and Sally Nugent are also regular hosts. In today's episode, Naga and Charlie had a chat with several guests including Vinnie Jones.

They also spoke to Paddy McGuiness about his enormous cycling challenge. He has been cycling from Wales to Scotland on a children's bike to raise funds for Children in Need.

BBC Breakfast is on BBC One weekdays at 6am and on BBC iPlayer
