BBC Breakfast star suffers embarrassing gaffe after replacing fan favourite
A BBC Breakfast presenter experienced a rather awkward moment on live television today.
Weatherman Matt Taylor, who was filling in for Carol Kirkwood, joined presenters Sally Nugent and Jon Kay on the morning show. The programme covered various topics, including the issue of frozen overseas pensions and Kevin Sinfield's remarkable 230-mile run to support Motor Neurone Disease causes.
In the studio, Matt was eager to inform viewers about the impending cold snap, cautioning that temperatures would plummet overnight. However, he encountered a technical hiccup.
While Jon was commenting on the frosty conditions, Matt attempted to display his weather graphics, but they wouldn't appear. He informed the audience: "We're flip-flopping from one extreme to another at the moment but another cold one this morning, a temperature drop through the night," and tried pressing the button once more, to no avail.
"Very good morning to you. Frost this morning, mainly across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, the far north of England though," he continued, trying to give an overview of the day's weather, "Some of the coldest spots are indeed in Scotland and Northern Ireland right now, we've got temperatures right down to minus five degrees."
Yet, he had to stop due to the glitch. Confronting the issue, he remarked: "Let's see if we can get these charts to work, it doesn't really want to work."
Discussing the on-air hiccup, Sally said: "I think you would have gotten away with that if we hadn't just mentioned it," eliciting a playful response from Jon who remarked: "I think it's so cold your computer graphics have frozen. Get the de-icer out!"
