BBC Breakfast's Charlie Stayt branded 'rude' after swipe

During a recent BBC Breakfast episode, viewers tuned in to find presenter Charlie Stayt distinctly unenthused after witnessing footage of school lunches.

Co-presenter Naga Munchetty had explained that University College London scientists found food fussiness might be more about genetics than parenting. As they discussed the findings, clips of various school meals played, including one of a cheesy baked potato, which prompted an unexpected reaction from Charlie.

After the footage, when asked by his co-host what he learnt from the segment, Charlie quipped: "Well I just saw a photo of a baked potato." His interest further waned as Naga asked if it made him want one, although he curtly replied that it didn't look appetising. He remarked: "No not really, it didn't look very appetising."

Naga appeared taken aback, as she said: "Ooh, a bit rude!"

An awkward atmosphere unfolded as she attempted to smile through Charlie's continued critique of the showcased food. He added: "What we should've had there were pictures of really lovely food shouldn't we?"

While Naga nudged him not to be dismissive, Charlie stood by his observations, clarifying he wasn't disparaging the dish itself but rather its excessive garnish.

He added: "I'm just saying, I didn't particularly want one and that one didn't look very nice. I don't like them covered in slop either. People pile loads of stuff on the baked potato. Just have it simple! With a little bit of butter, perfect."

Naga playfully dubbed her colleague the 'baked potato police' before passing the baton to Sarah Keith-Lucas for the weather update, reports the Express.

Yet, she couldn't resist teasing Charlie about his comment as she pointed out his rather dull option when it came to potato
