BBC Breakfast's Jon Kay makes plea to co-star as presenter begs 'please don't'
BBC Breakfast's Jon Kay couldn't hide his amusement on Tuesday morning when his colleague made an unexpected suggestion.
During the broadcast, sports presenter John Watson was updating viewers with the latest sports news.
The programme featured a pre-recorded segment with England cricket captain Heather Knight discussing the team's overseas tour. She shared that a personal highlight was performing the song Summer Nights as a duet with teammate Nat Sciver.
Following the footage, John remarked: "I think I'd be singing if I was leaving this weather behind, wouldn't you?"
Jon Kay interjected with a playful retort: "Please don't John, please don't! " His co-host, looking somewhat disappointed, responded: "Come on, can't I? Please come on!"
It seems, though, that the BBC presenters might just showcase their singing talents off-air in the near future, reports the Express.
Jon commented:: "Nina (Warhurst) has been talking about organising a karaoke night, so maybe your time has come?"
As John humorously agreed to take part, he elicited laughter from the BBC anchor.
Eagerly, he added: "Let's do it together!" Inquisitive about his karaoke preferences, Sarah Campbell asked him about his favourite song to sing.
While he was reluctant to share too much on the broadcast, he answered: "No, no phones allowed for that particular performance I think!"
He swiftly changed the subject, while Sarah kept laughing at the conversation.
This week, Sarah has joined Jon on the BBC Breakfast sofa, filling in for his regular co-host who is currently away from the show.
Sally Nugent, typically seen on the iconic red sofa from Monday to Wednesday, is notably absent this week, with no explanation provided by the broadcaster for her absence.
