Barry Robson targets Aberdeen FC 'reset' during winter break as boss looks to repeat trick he used last season

Barry Robson insists Aberdeen can take harsh lessons from a hectic first half of the season – and thrive on them in the New Year.

Pressure lifted on the Dons boss after a superb Dingwall display sent the Red Army heading home happy and Robson’s team into the winter break in far better fettle. Jamie McGrath’s brilliantly-taken double and a late 15th of the season from Bojan Miovski lifted dominant Aberdeen up to joint seventh in the table. With the Dons excellent throughout, the Irishman’s eighth and ninth goals of the campaign closed the gap on sixth-placed Hibs to two points, with two games in hand.

And Miovski’s solo run and finish wrapped it up with 10 minutes to go. Robson faced fresh scrutiny after a hefty home beating at the weekend but his side was dominant as County slipped deeper into danger. He said: “The boys played well and from start to finish – we looked like a proper team. I was pleased for the players as it’s been a long first half of the season with our travels. We always knew the first half of the season was going to be difficult.

“We’ve all learnt lessons, the players, the staff – the staff have been going seven days a week for the last four or five months. We need to come back after the break and really get after it, like we did last season.

“We learn from Europe and we move onto the next part of the season and it’s something we’re really looking forward to after a wee reset. They’ve shown character a lot of times this season when you look at some of the games we’ve played.
