Ballyboden St Enda's awarded Dublin league title as Kilmacud Crokes unable to field

Ballyboden St Enda's have been awarded the 2023 Dublin Division 1 League title after county champions Kilmacud Crokes announced they were unable to field for this week's final.

The Division 1 decider between the two southside giants, who contested October's Dublin SFC final, had been scheduled for Wednesday night but Dublin GAA disclosed that morning that the game had been called off.

Ballyboden released their own statement shortly afterwards, declaring that the reason given was that Kilmacud had informed the county board that they were unable to field a side.

"Unfortunately and regrettably, tonight's Division One league final is OFF, as Kilmacud Crokes have informed the County Board that they cannot field a team."

On Friday morning it was confirmed the Dublin Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) had awarded the title to Ballyboden

The Rathfarnham club released a statement congratulating manager Kenny Naughton and the players for "finishing top after a lengthy campaign".

"Following the disappointment of the Senior Football Div 1 League Final being called off on Wed, we can confirm the CCC of the Dublin County Board have awarded the game to @BodenGAA," the club said on X.

Reigning All-Ireland champions Kilmacud dispatched Ballyboden in this year's Dublin decider, winning by eight points to secure a first ever three-in-a-row. They subsequently followed it up by claiming a third successive Leinster crown, overcoming Naas at GAA HQ last Saturday.

Kilmacud will face the winners of Sunday's Ulster final between Glen and Scotstown in an All-Ireland club SFC semi-final in Croke Park on 6 January.
