Dundee v Airdrie: Premier Sports Cup tie is perfect game to bounce back from Ayr nightmare, says Adam Frizzell

Airdrie skipper Adam Frizzell insists their Premier Sports Cup last 16 tie with Dundee is the perfect game for them to bounce back from their Ayr nightmare in the Championship last week.

The Diamonds are still licking their wounds after a 5-0 humbling at the hands of Scott Brown's Honest Men and an even tougher task awaits them today when they travel to the City of Discovery to face a Dark Blues side that humbled Hearts 3-1 in the Premiership.

However, Frizzell feels with no pressure on Airdrie to get a result, and the fact they enjoyed a 1-0 win over Dundee in the group stages of last season's competition, it could be just the game they need.

The 26-year-old said: "Last Friday was a really bad night at the office for us, but we've analysed it, we know where we went wrong and we know how to correct it.

"We did basic things wrong. It is a young team so we need to talk more, organise better and make sure everyone has a voice. It goes a long way. It's nothing major but it was one of those nights where everything went wrong.

"It is an even bigger challenge on Saturday for us so we need to bounce back quickly. But it is probably the perfect game to have next. It is a free hit, there's no pressure on us and we aren't expected to get anything from the game - but we know we can.

"We beat Dundee last year. We are playing on their home patch this time but we have tended to fare well against Premiership teams. We've never looked way out of our depth and we will look to make it as difficult as possible for them.

"We will look to impose our style on them but we know it will be very difficult. Dundee are a good team, they finished in the top six last season so they are no mugs. We will need to make sure we are on it if we are to have
