Callum McGregor has attracted plenty of Hotline attention.
The Celtic skipper announced his retirement from Scotland duty at the end of last week. McGregor took to the pitch for the first time since the decision and smashed a stunning goal in front of national coach Steve Clarke to lead his team to a 2-0 win over Hibs. There’s a mixed response amongst the correspondents as Robert McEwan, Mount Vernon, said: “Love Callum’s call on Scotland, same as Scott Brown did. It can only be good for Celtic. A lot of so-called Scotland fans didn’t appreciate the guy.”
But Donald Dundas, Uddingston, stated: “It must be the thought of pulling on a blue jersey that makes McGregor totally disappear on the international stage. Just like the Danish superstar Matt O’Riley. Decent footballers, but you just know they’d vanish in a really competitive league.” Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: “McGregor retiring has left Clarke with a giant headache. Who can take the pace out of the game and pass the ball backwards every time they receive it?
Stephen Mulhearn, Dumbarton, was delighted at Celtic’s win and said: “I travelled to Edinburgh with some apprehension considering Brendan Rodgers’ record there. However the points were clinched in the first half when Celtic seemed to have twelve men on the park with the possession they had. The only disappointment was Kyogo not being on the scoresheet and no doubt Adam Idah’s transfer fee will have gone up another million with Norwich holding Celtic to ransom.”
