Ayr United defeat was "unacceptable" admits Hamilton Accies midfielder

Reegan Mimnaugh says Hamilton Accies’ 2-0 defeat against Ayr United was unacceptable, and three points dropped.

It was something of a meek surrender for the Championship’s bottom side, as Ben Dempsey’s 12th-minute penalty and Sam Ashford’s strike had the points wrapped up by the 27th minute.

Ayr could have added significantly more to their tally on what was a poor afternoon for John Rankin’s side.

That leaves Arbroath ahead of Accies on goal difference in ninth, and Cove Rangers a point above both in eighth, as they approach the final stretch of the campaign.

Mimnaugh said: “The first half was nowhere near good enough. It’s not what we’ve been doing for the last four, five or six weeks.

“It was nowhere near good enough for the standards we set in training every single day.

“In the second half we were just a bit passive, there was nothing, really, going forward.

“I feel as though it’s three points dropped.

“The penalty kills us – it deflated us, but that’s not acceptable.

“Ayr did have a few chances to score more goals, so thankfully it was only 2-0.

“It feels like we were lacking that wee bit in the final third, but we’ll pick ourselves up and go again.

“It’s a sore one, but we can’t dwell on it too much and think about it. We just need to think of the next game, and keep going.”
