Hamilton Accies discover Dan O'Reilly red card appeal verdict

Hamilton Accies have failed in their bid to have Dan O'Reilly's red card in Sunday's SPFL Trust Trophy win overturned.

The defender was sent off 10 minutes into the second half of Hamilton's triumph over Raith Rovers at the Falkirk Stadium, with the South Lanarkshire side leading 1-0 through a Reghan Tumilty strike in the first half.

O'Reilly's dismissal for catching Sam Stanton in the face with his arm led to a backs to the wall display from Accies, as they clung on to their lead to clinch cup glory.

But replays suggested the decision by referee Colin Steven to show O'Reilly a straight red for serious foul play was harsh on the Irishman.

Accies hoped to have it downgraded to a yellow card, but the SFA's fast track judical panel dismissed Hamilton's appeal and it means O'Reilly will now miss Saturday's Championship trip to Dundee, as well as Hamilton's first match of the trophy defence next season.

Meanwhile, Hamilton's scheduled fixture with Queen's Park on April 15 has been brought forward to Friday, April 14 (kick-off 7.45pm) due to a fixture clash with Stenhousemuir, who are currently sharing their Ochilview Park with the Spiders as they await a move-in date for their long-awaited and delayed switch to Lesser Hampden.

The Spiders had been due to be at Lesser Hampden by now but the ground will not be ready before the end of the season.
