Kennington Football Club to celebrate the life of junior coach Arran McManus with a minute’s applause at Saturday’s home game
Kennington will celebrate the life of junior coach Arran McManus at their home game this weekend.
Ton are to hold a minute’s applause for McManus, 36, when they face Sutton Athletic at Homelands on Saturday (3pm).
The dad-of-two, a hugely popular figure at Kennington, died in a road accident at the end of last month.
A man has since been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
Kennington’s junior sides will be at the game and first-team manager Dan Scorer has called on the wider community to join them to remember McManus.
“We’re hoping to get many members of the community to come and show their support for Arran,” said Scorer.
“We’re inviting all our junior sides and all members of the community to come and have a celebration of Arran’s life because he was someone who epitomised what the club stands for and what our core values are.
“To lose someone like that from the club is really quite tragic, so we’ll have a minute’s applause on Saturday to celebrate Arran, and it’s then up to the boys to go and deliver on a performance.”
Kennington are looking to put a poor run of form behind them against Sutton.
They’ve slipped to 12th in the Southern Counties East Premier Division and last weekend lost 5-1 away to a Chislehurst Glebe side who started the day in the bottom two.
Lucas Mvongo scored the consolation goal in a heavy defeat.
“Saturday was probably as disappointed as I’ve been in a few seasons,” said Scorer.
“Our application from start to finish just wasn’t there.
“We’re still battling against injuries and suspensions but it doesn’t forgive the application of the boys that were selected to go out and represent the club because we’re a lot better than what we’ve shown in recent weeks.
