Antrim turmoil continues with 52-point Wexford drubbing

Antrim's annus horribilis continued on Saturday as they suffered a 52-point drubbing at the hands of Wexford in their Very Camogie League Division 1B clash in Enniscorthy.

The Saffrons have been beset by off-field issues since start of the season with Elaine Dowds replaced as manager in November – sparking social media criticism from some players - with Brian Kearney and Mark McFadden stepping up from the intermediate side to guide their senior team.

That duo then, in turn, stepped down prior to their league opener against Down with Carl McCormick stepping in for the four-point win.

Saturday was a different story though as Wexford hit an astonishing 12-20 with the Ulster side managing just four points in reply.

Only three points separated the sides in last year’s league clash, but this game was as good as over after 13 minutes as the Model County led 3-04 to 0-01.

The gap was 28 points at the interval, 6-11 to 0-01, Ciara O’Connor (2), Shelly Kehoe, Kate Kirwan, Linda Bolger and Emma Tompkins all raising green flags.

They’d hit another six on the resumption, Tompkins completing her hat-trick with a brace, O’Connor doing likewise with another goal, and Sarah O’Connor, Ailish Neville and Joanne Neville all adding goals.

Elsewhere in Division 1B, Limerick made it two wins from two with a comprehensive 3-19 to 0-06 win over Down.

The sides shared the first four points in Kilmallock but Limerick were soon in their groove and led 0-11 to 0-02 at the break with Rebecca Delee confident from frees.

Caoimhe Lyons grabbed the home side’s first goal 10 minutes into the second half before they added two more goals in the closing minutes.
