Wexford demolish Tipperary with little fuss

Wexford blitzed Tipperary with four goals to keep their hopes of promotion in Allianz Football League Division 4 on track at Fethard on Sunday.

The Leinster lads showed a much greater appetite for the fay than the home side who were out of contention for promotion and who fielded a much changed team. From the time Sean Nolan notched Wexford's first goal after 10 minutes to put them 1-02 to 0-01 ahead, there was only going to be one result.

By half-time Wexford had the points secure.

Connor Kennedy, a late replacement for Ben Brosnan, scored their second goal after 22 minutes from a Sean Nolan pass and Mark Rossiter claimed Wexford’s third goal after 27 minutes as they pushed 3-06 to 0-5 clear of a struggling Tipperary by half-time.

Any faint hopes Tipp had of a second half revival were dashed six minutes after resuming when Rossiter nudged home his second goal for Wexford in a goalmouth scramble.

The win keeps Wexford firmly on course for promotion, their prospects greatly enhanced by the boost to their scoring difference of a 14 points win. They dominated from start to finish with key performances from such as Mark Rossiter, Dylan Furlong, Glen Malone, Eoghan Nolan, and Gavin Sheehan.

The game marked a record-equalling 174th appearance for the county of Ben Brosnan who came on as a second half sub to score two points from frees.

Tipp were never really in the hunt. Out of contention in the league their focus is on the championship against Waterford next month with several players not available through injury at present.

Colm O Shaughnessy, Jack Kennedy, Sean O Connor, Jimmy Feehan, and Kieran Costello worked very hard to turn the tide in their favour.
