Antony responds to Man United injury nightmare as recall situation explained
Antony has responded to Amad's injury setback as Manchester United have been left short of options in attack.
The 22-year-old will miss a significant period after sustaining ankle ligament damage in the build-up to United's Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur. Although he could return to the fold before the end of May, Amad expressed his disappointment on social media.
"Extremely disappointed to be writing this message in such a crucial time of the season. Unfortunately, I will be out for some time with an injury. I will come back stronger than ever!! Time to support the boys from the outside. Still loads to play for," he wrote on Instagram.
Antony was one of the many who showed their support in the comment. "Good recovery that you come back stronger Hermano [brother]," he wrote. Amad had been one of Ruben Amorim's most reliable options to call upon this season, with him scoring nine goals and providing six assists.
The Portuguese head coach will now have to find an alternative option, as Antony and Marcus Rashford are currently on loan at Real Betis and Aston Villa respectively. Antony has found a breath of fresh air in Spain, having been awarded man of the match on his debut before he scored his first goal in the 3-2 defeat to Celtic Vigo.
That was then followed by another goal in the Europa League 3-0 win over Gent.
With uncertainty over whether Antony can be recalled to fill the void left by Amad, it remains unknown if there is a recall option agreed by United and Betis. Should that agreement be in place, United will only be able to activate it 28 days after the beginning of the loan spell.
Antony was confirmed on January 25 so he could not be recalled between now and February 25. But if no recall option
