Antony can do something Marcus Rashford hasn’t for Manchester United this season vs Bournemouth

Erik ten Hag has been quick to praise Antony’s improved Manchester United form over the last few matches as the Brazilian tries to nail down his starting XI spot again.

The winger showed sparks of brightness once again in the Champions League draw with Galatasaray and was left on for the full 90 minutes in the Premier League for the first time this season against Chelsea.

He’s started just two league matches since the start of November and could have no complaints about being dropped for the first time against Manchester City, despite his frustrated substitute’s appearance after being brought on late.

Ten Hag’s £85m signing has performed well below his price tag and fans have rightly become frustrated with his lack of output. The 23-year-old is yet to score or assist in 15 matches this season and this will become an increasing concern with every game that passes.

Antony proved last season that he does possess the quality to trouble defences, but he has rarely shown that on a consistent basis for the Reds. He scored three times in his first three Premier League games, a club record, but there are fears he has become too predictable.

One former United striker has more than once aired his frustrations about Antony’s lack of crosses and his tendency to cut back inside onto his left foot.
