Anthony Martial has a big decision to make at Manchester United

Now 27, Anthony Martial finds himself currently with a year left on his contract and seemingly not in a starting position for the centre-forward or wide positions.

Every Manchester United fan remembers the day the young Frenchman twisted and turned Martin Skrtel inside and out before scoring on debut against Liverpool. In that moment, the €60million move for the 2015 Golden Boy award winner seemed like it was money well spent.

Eight years have passed since Martial moved from Monaco to Manchester and it’s fair to say that the fee has not matched the performances. United have the option to extend Martial's contract by a further year which would see his deal run out in June 2025. An entire 10 years since he arrived at Old Trafford, something that would make Anthony Martial eligible for a testimonial match at the club.

While he has featured in three of United’s four games so far this season, it is hard to see where exactly Anthony Martial fits in at United these days. New signing Rasmus Hojlund. is likely to be manager Erik ten Hag's new preference as United’s starting centre-forward having returned from injury and United already have plenty of depth in the wide areas without Martial, in Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho.
