Pep Guardiola faces difficult challenge at Man City this season
Manchester City under Pep Guardiola have been known for being relentless in their pursuit of glory.
City have won three Premier League titles on the spin and have won six league titles in the last decade. They also won four league cups in a row between 2018 and 2021. However, Guardiola’s ability to motivate his side to go again in the quest for will be tested like never before in this season’s Champions League.
In previous years, Guardiola and City have had something of a chip on their shoulder when it came to winning the famous European trophy, now that they have finally won the trophy there may be less of a fire in the bellies of the players and manager. Even at Barcelona, with what is widely regarded as one of the best club sides of all time, Guardiola failed to win the prestigious trophy in consecutive seasons.

Currently, Guardiola’s contract at Manchester City runs out in 2025, giving him just this season and the next at the Citizens if he is not to sign another deal. While he will want to go out on a high note if he is to leave at this point, can he motivate the same players who gave so much for the 2023 glory to push again?
Only Real Madrid in recent years have managed to win the Champions League in consecutive years and this was no easy feat and has not been done in the six years since. City face a group that includes familiar foes RB Leipzig as well as Red Star Belgrade and Swiss champions FC Young Boys.
