Angry Coronation Street star says he'll avoid new Salford food hall after 'discrimination' over cash

Coronation Street star Daniel Brocklebank has hit out at a new Salford food hall - for not taking cash. Daniel, who plays Corrie's Billy Mayhew, headed to check out the new Kargo MKT venue at MediaCityUK at its launch event on Thursday night.

While he was full of praise for the food on offer, he was left "disappointed" after discovering that the waterside food village is a "card only" venue. He hit out on his official Twitter page, which sparked a debate among followers.

He went on to add that a "venue that discriminates those who can't pay digitally is a venue I avoid."

Kargo MKT has only this week opened at a vast site at the new Central Bay complex at MediaCity - just across the water from the Coronation Street studios. It boasts 20 independent food retailers in street food style kitchens where diners can choose a variety of cuisines and then eat either indoors or outside by the waterside.

Writing on Twitter on Thursday night, Daniel posted to his 110k followers: "Was at the launch of #kargoMKT tonight in media city. Great choice of food but very disappointed to see that they refuse cash.

He added: "A venue that discriminates those who can’t pay digitally is a venue I avoid."

We have asked Kargo MKT for comment on its cashless policy and they said this is to "support local start-ups with a more efficient operation".

A spokesperson for Kargo MKT said: "Firstly, we’d like to thank Mr Brocklebank for attending our launch night and for appreciating the food offering that we have worked so hard to bring together – we are extremely proud of it.

"We are giving a platform to an incredible array of local and start-up kitchens
