Ange sees Jay Z Tottenham takeover plot bizarrely emerge as former Celtic boss put on flashback alert

Ange Postecoglou's first pre-season in charge has been turbulent - but now the former Celtic boss is seeing takeover plots formed.

Spurs supremo Joe Lewis has controversy hanging over his head as he waits to see if he is convicted of fraud and insider trading. He appeared in a New York court last week to deny 16 counts of securities fraud and three further conspiracy charges relating to alleged “insider trading” offences that took place between 2013 and 2021. The charges each carry a sentence of between five and 25 years in jail.

Now the Daily Express claim music giant Jay-Z is 'preparing to bid for Tottenham Hotspur' should Lewis be convicted, and is 'backed by a group of US investors who are waiting in the wings.' 13 years ago, the rapper made a move to become a major Arsenal investor but as it fell flat, he insisted: "I don’t know a lot about the business of soccer but in future, if the right opportunity presented itself, then who knows?”

Real name Shawn Carter, his associate said: “More than a few of the very top clubs there – like Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea – are now under US ownership and Jay would jump at the chance of a controlling interest at board level somewhere with the global reach of Spurs.

“It remains to be seen whether Mr Lewis will walk away free. If he doesn’t, Jay has said he wants to be in a position to move quickly if he feels the price is right. He believes this is achievable, especially with the backing of fellow investors.”

It's been a busy summer for Postecoglou since leaving Celtic. And he's had several challenges to deal with, including a rebuild of his squad, a fight to keep Harry Kane and seeing a pre-season friendly in Bangkok washed out.
