Andre Onana is one step from being everything Manchester United fans want

Andre Onana spoke to reporters after making his debut for Manchester United against Wolves in August.

He was described as a 'lifesaver' by a member of the club's communications staff because the impression was nobody in the dressing room wanted to come out and speak to the handful of journalists. United were fortunate to scrape a 1-0 win and it wasn't a vintage performance.

The visitors should have been awarded a late penalty and received a subsequent apology from the PGMOL. Although Onana played down Wolves' penalty appeal when speaking in the mixed zone, he came across well and it wasn't a surprise to see him take responsibility for his mistake against Bayern Munich weeks later.

The goalkeeper requested to speak to the media after making a costly error at the Allianz Arena and supporters appreciated him fronting up and admitting that his performance hadn't been good enough. Onana is likeable but some of his displays have let the team down.

“If I have to speak about my season so far for Manchester United, I am not happy because I know I can do much much better," he recently told Sky Sports. "I've done it and I know I will do it better than what is happening now. We are not facing a good moment. I hope things will change as soon as possible.

"But listen, you want to tell me in six months the best goalkeeper in the Champions League last season can become the worst in the world? Nah. Everything is temporary. I know it'll be alright.

"If not today, it will be tomorrow, if not tomorrow, the day after tomorrow. The manager was successful at Ajax, we reached the semi-final of the Champions League playing from the back.
