Manchester United transfer news live Raphael Varane future latest as Erik ten Hag makes contract decision

The transfer window is only two days old and Manchester United have already let a player go.

Donny van de Beek’s departure to Frankfurt was long expected. He heads to Germany on loan initially ahead of a potential permanent £12m summer switch. Others could be leaving this month too.

Jadon Sancho’s continual exile means a loan exit is almost certain with the winger having not played since August. The likes of Hannibal Mejbri and Dan Gore could head out on loan for the second half of the season.

Looking ahead, Raphael Varane’s future is uncertain. The defender is not due to be offered a renewal on his current deal and he can speak to overseas clubs given he is in the final six months of his contract. The World Cup winner may be offered a reduced-terms deal amid his slipping status at United, although the player is undecided whether he would take up such proposals.

Meanwhile, on the incoming front, United continue to be linked with a number of defenders including Jean-Clair Todibo and Giorgio Scalvini.

United playmaker Donny van de Beek has joined Eintracht Frankfurt on loan with a view to a permanent transfer.

Eintracht have paid United a minimal loan fee and are covering the majority of Van de Beek's £125,000-a-week wages. Eintracht have the option to buy Van de Beek, 26, for €11million (£9.55m), with €3m (£2.6m) in add-ons.

The move is the second loan for Van de Beek during his time at United after he spent a forgettable five months with Everton two years ago.

Van de Beek has played 62 times for United and scored only two goals. He has had only 19 minutes of playing time this season and it is approaching three years since he last figured for the Netherlands national team.
