Live updates as crash causes gas leak and school and surgery are closed as area is cordoned off

Police cordoned off an area in Treorchy after a crash caused a gas leak. South Wales Police said officers were at the scene of an incident which started at 1.43pm on Thursday in Ynyswen. Two people suffered minor injuries.

A South Wales Police spokesperson said shortly after the incident: "One man is believed to be injured, and a cordon has been put in place while emergency services deal with the incident. Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Ynyswen, on Ynyswen Road, sent children home due to the leak, with parents asked to pick up their children, and Forest View Health GP surgery on Abergorki industrial estate was also shut. The leak happened after a gas meter in the surgery car park was hit by a car. The surgery told patients in a message: "Due to a significant incident involving a road traffic collision and gas leak, Forest View Health is closed this afternoon. Police and fire brigade are in attendance and access is not permitted into the practice. Apologies for any inconvenience."
