Ally McCoist reveals ultimate Rangers XI with one glaring omission and shares epic tale from the vault

Ally McCoist has revealed his all-time Rangers XI and it comes with a twist.

The record Ibrox goalscorer is looking ahead to tonight's game in Lisbon, where Philippe Clement's side take on Benfica in the first leg of their Europa League last 16 clash. Gers stunned Spanish cracks Real Betis in their final group game to take top spot with a first ever away win against Spanish opposition, and their reward was the under-pressure Portuguese giants.

After a Premiership slip up against Motherwell at the weekend, focus temporarily shifts from the title race to European action, with McCoist set for punditry duties. But he took time out to name his ultimate Light Blues lineup for TNT. As expected, it features many of his 80s and 90s teammates, who created history by winning nine titles in a row, starting the run under Graeme Souness before Walter Smith kicked things up a notch after taking the reins in Govan.

And McCoist shared a hilarious tale about how the squad honoured left wing wizard, the late Davie Cooper, at his testimonial. He said: "I have a great story about Coop. His left foot was a wand, an absolute wand. And God bless him, at his testimonial dinner all the boys had to get him a present.

"And what could we get the man with effectively everything? And I thought 'I know, the one thing that Davie Cooper does not have' and we presented him at the dinner with a right leg!

"We went to one of the shops in the town, got one of the model dummies, took the right leg off it and got it all wrapped up. We presented it to Coop at his testimonial dinner and it went down really, really well."
