Ally McCoist in incredulous live radio reaction after Rangers hero told England EXPECT to win Euros already

Ally McCost begrudgingly admits England are slight favourites to win Euro 2024. But 'expecting' to win it before a ball is kicked? That's where he draws the line.

Gareth Southgate and his team have one of the best squads on the planet but the final in 2021 is the closest they've got to winning a major tournament since 1966. That of course hasn't stopped the English media once again getting ahead of themselves heading into the summer tournament and Andy Townsend claimed on talkSPORT he EXPECTS them to win the tournament already.

But an incredulous McCoist simply wasn't having that this early on. The two were discussing Gareth Southgate's future on talkSPORT breakfast, with the Three Lions boss heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer. And Townsend claimed it would be a good fit if he wins the Euros...something he 'expects' to happen.

But a confused McCoist said: "I'm not having expect. It's different asking who I expect to win it because I'm not English! I think you've got to hope and believe you can win it, you can do everything you can to win it. But expecting? That's dangerous territory.

"I don't want to contradict myself, if I'm betting on someone to win it, it's England. Them and France are a level above anybody else, including Spain, Germany Portugal and everyone else. And I make England slight favourites. But I'm not sure I expect them to win it."
