Alfredo Morelos exit as Rangers free agent sees heartbroken home town club rue missing transfer windfall

Alfredo Morelos' maiden club have been left gutted that the forward has left Rangers for nothing - as they had a guaranteed financial windfall to gain from a transfer deal.

Independiente Medellin president Daniel Ossa has tempered South American rumours that the Colombian international could make an emotional return to his first club in his homeland, with the striker still without fresh terms having ran down his Premiership deal. Morelos said earlier this month that he wanted to stay in an interesting league in Europe but walking away from Rangers is a financial hammer blow for Independiente Medellin.

The 26-year-old starred for them over three years before heading to HJK Helsinki prior to his switch to Glasgow in 2017. Ossa said: "We had a percentage due to us if and when Alfredo Morelos was transferred. Because his team Rangers didn't make that sale, the percentage was lost.

"I have read the rumours about him coming back to us. But Alfredo is a player who earns a lot of money and, at the moment anyway, is not for Medellin."
