Lionel Messi in life after Rangers lesson to Scott Arfield as superstar 'unites' teammates with touch of class

Charlotte FC midfielder Scott Arfield was given a Major League Soccer reality check after Lionel Messi showed his class when facing the former Rangers man for Inter Miami.

The Canada international joined the likes of club stalwart Allan McGregor and fan favourites Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos in leaving Ibrox at the end of last season Arfield and opted for a switch to North Carolina on an 18-month deal, but the 34-year-old has struggled to help Charlotte turn their Eastern Conference campaign around. The club look unlikely to make the cut for the end of season playoffs - and facing a World Cup winner certainly didn't help that cause.

Messi and co ran riot against Arfield's men as they cruised to a 4-0 victory - despite David Beckham's franchise being rooted to the foot of the table. The World Cup winner got on the scoresheet in the closing stages of the clash but it was a moment of magic from the Argentina superstar in the middle of the park that caught the eyes of fans.

As Messi moves forward he shrugs off the challenge of the Charlotte midfielder attempting to catch him just outside the centre circle - when Arfield steps in to block his route forward. However, the unfazed former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star quickly changes direction.

The switch from Messi left the former Falkirk and Burnley star behind - and Arfield was left to run into his own teammate. Social media was left in awe of Messi with one user claiming he had left the pair "united" as another unsympathetic punter posted "oh dear Arfield" with a laughing emoji face.
